Hastings Rowing Club- Homepage
A tribute from Ex-Captain Paul Knight:
Hastings has lost one of its longest serving sporting figures. Wilf John Court passed away on Saturday 28th October 2005 .
Wilf joined Hastings and St.Leonards Rowing Club as a coxwain in 1932 and 2 years later became a rowing member.
However 74 years later he was still one of the Club's keenest members still attending committee meetings and supporting the rowers.
In his day he has served the Club as Captain, Vice-Captain, Vice-Commodore, Commodore,, Vice-Chairman, Chairman and more recently as President and Immediate Past President. He was also a Vice-Presisdent of CARA, the Coast Amateur Rowing Association.
Without Wilf the Club would certainly never have survived the war years and its many invasions of the sea into the premises. Putting aside all of Wilf's achievements it is his undoubted love of the sport and his guidance given to the many members who have passed through the Club that will be missed most and can never be replaced.
Farewell from all at the Club.
His service is being held at the Hastings Crematorium on Friday 11th November.
Paul Knight.
