South Coast Championships Swanage!
A fabulous weekend was had by all at this years Championships held at
Swanage.
From a rowing point of view Hastings were disappointed not to win the
Bideford Bowl. However we entered 5 crews this year and a great deal of
experience was gained.
The first crew out was the Veterans of Andy Wilson, Alan Piper,Bob
Salmon and Simon.

A good attempt but there was very strong entries from Hants and
Dorset this year. Is their population profile older?
Next out was our wonderful mixture of Novices, from the ever hopeful Mr
Roger Duce, Greg, Brian Hempstead and Roger Roberts. Their cox in the
background is Fiona Knight; just back in time from the beer tent where she was
ensuring her shouting ability was up the scratch.

The crew are spurred on by the delicate tones of Fiona!
Well done to the Novices who fought magnificently to get into the South
Coast Championships Open Final.!!
The Junior Senior Four of Steve Barnard, Ben Muggridge, Steve Callar
and Jamie Hayden coxed by Ella Muggridge rowed valiantly but were up against
some very good crews from the other Associations.

The great hope for the day was our Senior IV of Paul
Knight, Mark King, Alan Bates and Tim Ash who romped through their heat.
However in the final the Starters let the crews go even
though our hands were up indicating we were not ready. As they manouvred into
position they realised that the others had gone but the damage had been done
and it was not possible to catch up. Better luck next year!

At one stage it appeared that the crew veered into the main shipping
canal.

Our fifth crew out on the day was our Ladies IV of Mandy Hawker, Ella
Muggridge, Frances Bates and Fiona Knight. Coxed in the experienced hands of Mr
Steve Barnard. However the opposition was too heavy for them !

The Ladies boat is carried up the beach by the guys in an amazing act
of chivalry. !!
