Hastings & St. Leonards Rowing Club

Herne Bay Sunday 7th August 2005

The day we just pipped the Aussies!

The rowing had to compete with the end of the 2nd test in which England just managed to win by 2 runs!

We start with a beach scene with the usual Herne Bay North wind cooling everyone down. A force 5 to 6 was on the cards. Note above a smiling Chairman, Mr Steve Barnard!

After a lot of persuading the Chairman press ganged the writer to accompany him to the bar where we watched enthralled with a couple or so pints of the amber nectar and some Guinness watching the exciting test match end.

The end , England won. Suddenly !

Mr Phil "The Power" Thornton, (depicted left at the Herne Bay Chapter of the Winter Solstice Annual Cross Dressing Association bash) ,was so overcome with emotion that he gave our exteemed Chairman a bear hug which with the tinkling of crushed ribs amid the the peels of agony added to the feverish atmosphere of Herne Bay's bar!
Mr Steve Barnard yet again received a sport's injury!!
This time nowhere near a boat!!
Fortunately Steve gamely held on to drive the boats home. Well done Steve!

...meanwhile back at the rowing. The Senior IV were trying to improve on their 4th places in recent races.

The final saw them battling against the best on the Coast.

Eloise! Have a word with Dad and tell him to keep his eyes in the boat and not smiling at the camera!!

The rough sea makes it difficult for Coxwains to see the dans!

However the Senior's still managed to come 4th . Well done to Paul Knight, Roger Roberts, Mark King, Ian Smith and coxed by Eloise!

Next off were our brand new pair of Captain Bob Salmon and Roger Roberts!

It was not an easy sea to start pairing in!

Bloody 'ell.!! This is hard work wheases Bob!

However they finished a difficult race in difficult conditions looking good! Congratulations!
