The day for Novices and Old Friends!

The weather was overcast most of the day but warm which resulted in lots of people deciding that the beach was an excellent place to be and we saw record numbers of regular, old and new friends meet up at the club. The wind was tipped to be unpredicatable but in the end it was very benign and the sea became calmer as the day progressed.

Our Oldest Member, Mr Wilf Court, was unable to attend but he sent his best regards to all at the Club. We hope to see him again before too long.

Ferguson's Flyers take on the Mad Hatters!

We managed to put afloat two Novice IV's this year which represented a lot of work by our Coaches over recent months.

Some say they are as identical as two genetically modified peas in a pod. Inseparable at a distance, Jupiter perhaps, they never the less were drawn next to each other in the Novice IV heats!

The Mad Hatters , "The 'Eavy Mob", of John Crowther, Ben Arnold, Brian McNeilly and Brian Hempstead have years of experience behind them, unfortunately not at rowing. However under the guidance of Coach and Cox Steve "The Mad Hatter", Callar they pulled confidently to the start after finishing their race at Eastbourne last week.

However a newly formed rival Hastings crew , "The Ferguson's Flyers", Ollie Lambrechs, Craig Golding, Ryan Symmonds and Steve Morley coached and coxed by Rob Ferguson proudly pulled into position 6. in the heats. After having trained together for several minutes before the race they represented a fearful challenge to the more Senior Hastings Novice A crew. In fact it had been decided by the Mad Hatters that if all things were equal they would agree to determining who was better by holding a tug-of-war competition. You can't be fairer than that!

The Mad Hatters found the extra ballast in the boat useful in the turbulent seas...

...whereas the lighter Flyer's were at a disadvantage.

The Mad Hatter's back in training after making it to the final where they narrowly missed out on the pots. However well done to both crews on putting up a good show for the cheering crowds on the beach!
