Dover Regatta !!
Saturday August 5th 2006

Light Northerly winds gently cooling a sun kissed Dover Harbour beach paradise was predicted! As it turned out the wind was South West or Southerly and quite strong causing problems for many competitors as well as being quite chilly on the beach.

Altogether there were 17 different categories of racing. These now include Under 16, Double & Quad Sculls as well as Novice Sculls. These are for both men and ladies and hopefully will bring a new young generation of rowers into the sport. Many of the newer boats have been purchased via grants from Lottery based funding organisations as well as the traditional methods of raising money!

The (slightly off-) White Cliffs of Dover act as a back drop to Dover Regatta.

An Overview of the 17 Races. Click for more info on each race.

Doing it the Dutch way. Paula and Vicky get into a boat.

Paula explains " It was such a bogger. It was much easier getting in a boot in die Zuider Zee!"

France is quite clear most of the day.

The Seniors discuss advanced navigation techniques; "That way must be South I saw a bird fly there. "

A mystery Scandinavian Fraulein was seen trawling the promenade.
