Dartmouth September 16th
(All the rowing pictures of crews taken about 20 yards from the finish)
Welcome to the 50th South Coast Rowing Championships held this year in the West of England at Dartmouth.
It was "A Golden event for a Golden sport!"
The first thing about Dartmouth that strikes you is what a lovely town it is. Fairly small, on an estuarine river and it has some hills
In fact it has some very steep hills which one is always stuck with having to go up!
It has some very nice venues. This is the roof top of The Floating Bridge. Popular with non-smoking visitors!
After a couple of days another thing strikes you. They don't actually like visitors!

..whether it be natural! |
| or human! | ![]() |
And so to the regatta. There was a Civic Reception with free nosh and talks on Friday night. Our Mr Steve Barnard had his best ex CARA President jacket and badges ready PLUS forgetting his tie actually went and bought one.
..but no one at Hastings Club were invited. Sob! Sob!. Even though we had 2 championship crews!
Later that night as Hastings returned to the top of Tunstall Hill they were surpised to meet certain members of Clubs unknown doing extra training!
Though carrying heavy garden gates and For Sale signs uphill isn't a generally recognised training session!
However lets get on with the rowing.
First was the 1st South Coast Junior Regatta.!
An excellent idea to encourage our younger rowers.
Hopefully Hastings will have some crews in this category by next year.
10 events for Double sculls, Quad sculls, and coxed IV's for both men and ladies in Under 14, Under 16 and Under 18 categories.

Lets take time out to thank the huge number of organisers of the event which went brilliantly to time in spite of ferries crossing and numerous other boats on the water,. Excellently done!
Announcer Karen Harris was on form again. I particularly liked her comment about the Royal castle hotel, (£200 a room as some Bexhill members found out) when she reminisced "I've spent many a night there". Was she alluding to an earlier career?

The trains in the South West seems a little out of date!
However coming up next is the start of the 50th South Coast Championships!
